Film Training Manitoba Receives a Behind the Scenes View of Assiniboine Community College’s New State of the Art Centre for Creative Media

This past Friday, Film Training Manitoba (FTM)’s Managing Director Adam Smoluk travelled on-site to long-serving partner Assiniboine Community College (ACC) located in the City of Brandon, Manitoba.

During the visit, Smoluk provided a workforce development coaching session for ACC students about jobs and careers in the film industry. In early 2021, Smoluk was appointed chairperson to a new Program Advisory Committee for ACC’s Creative Media and Communications Program. ACC launched three new two-year diploma programs focusing on creative media and technologies within its School of Business. The Media & Communications, Digital Art & Design, and Web & Interactive Development programs started in fall 2021.

Smoluk was provided with a tour of the currently under construction Centre for Creative Media after the session.  Located at ACC’s Victoria Avenue East campus in Brandon, this 8,000 square foot Centre will house new equipment and integrate technology into a single space, training graduates for rapidly changing, technology-driven careers in media, communications, design, and development

“ACC’s new programs and the cutting-edge Centre of Creative Media are outstanding. I saw the plans earlier this year and I’m so proud that one of Manitoba’s leading post-secondary schools has launched these major assets,” said Smoluk, “Manitoba’s Westman region has over 115,000 residents making it the most populated area outside of the Winnipeg metropolitan region. FTM is going to continue to engage with ACC to support workforce development of Manitoba’s growing film industry and we are grateful to connect with such a strong partner.”

In addition, ACC and FTM have agreed to three new joint partnerships for upcoming training sessions for 2022.

FTM is a non-for-profit charity of the Province of Manitoba’s sector council program through the Department of Economic Development and Jobs. FTM builds a highly skilled and adaptable film industry workforce to support the activities of Manitoba production companies. FTM collaborates with members of the film and television industry to identify the training needs within the community.
