Manitoba’s workforce development and training organization Film Training Manitoba (FTM) has awarded Robert Macklin the Carole Vivier Distinguished Builder Award at ACTRA Manitoba’s Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.

This honour recognizes Manitobans who have contributed outstanding years of service building Manitoba’s film and TV industry.

Macklin has served as the branch representative for ACTRA Manitoba for over twenty years and has served on a vast collection of industry advisory committees and boards. Macklin was selected unanimously by FTM’s board of directors and Carole Vivier, the former CEO and Film Commissioner of Manitoba Film and Music. The honour was presented by FTM’s Chair Andrew Yankiwski (Managing Partner of Precursor Productions), FTM’s Managing Director Adam Smoluk, and Carole Vivier.

“Since FTM’s founding, Rob worked to partner with and program a wide collection of annual in-class training programming to support the development of the membership. This includes launching the highly successful Actor’s Gyms, Masterclasses, and a wide gamut of other performer-related learning. Just this past May, ACTRA Manitoba, with Rob’s work, supported 25 Indigenous performers to receive a special Masterclass with actor and producer Tina Keeper,” said Vivier, and added, “It’s cutting-edge training like this that demonstrates that Rob has done exceptional work at identifying and targeting cutting-edge programming that builds and grows our entire industry. When the pressure is on, Rob has always been a highly respectful and valuable contributor to our industry. On behalf our entire film industry, thank you for your lifetime of service. Congratulations Rob!”

FTM is a non-for-profit charity and member of the Province of Manitoba’s sector council program (through the Department of Economic Development and Jobs). FTM conducts workforce development and training to build a highly skilled and adaptable film industry to support the activities of Manitoba production companies. FTM collaborates with members of the film and television industry to identify the training needs within the community.
