Over the past three years, Film Training Manitoba (FTM) and the Manitoba Construction Sector Council (MCSC) have been partnering on industry-specific women’s conferences, and the two organizations are set to work together again this November.

The Manitoba Construction Sector Council (MCSC) is hosting the third Manitoba Women in Trades Conference on November 21, 2024 at Victoria Inn, Winnipeg and this cutting-edge event is anticipating over 400 delegates. FTM’s Executive Director Adam Smoluk is serving on a panel session which will cover Manitoba’s EmpowHer program that was the first-of-its-kind multi-sector, collaborative project designed to prepare women for employment in the construction, film, or manufacturing industries in Manitoba. The goal of this project was to work with female and female-identifying participants to develop the required skills for successful entry into underrepresented, entry-level occupations in one of the three sectors.

MCSC has been working with FTM to provide support for FTM’s Supporting Women in Film Trades (SWIFT) Conference 2024, which is taking place on November 30 and December 1.

“FTM is grateful to learn so much from Carol Paul and the Manitoba Construction Sector Council with the highly innovative women programming they have been spearheading.” Said FTM’s Executive Director Adam Smoluk.

“The Manitoba Sector Council program has a highly successful track record of encouraging cross-sector partnership, which has led to Manitoba’s creation of Canada’s Supporting Women in Film Trades (SWIFT) Conference. The SWIFT Conference is the only one that exists for administrative and technical working in the film industry.” He added.

FTM is a non-for-profit charity and member of the Province of Manitoba’s Sector Council program funded through the Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources. FTM builds a highly skilled and adaptable film industry workforce to support the activities of Manitoba production companies. FTM collaborates and partners with members of the film industry to identify training needs to support workforce development.
