Job Profile
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Film & Special Events with guidance from the Film and Special Events Liaisons, the Permit Clerk receives applicants and performs office and technical duties related to initiating and coordinating permit applications and film coordination fees (as set my City Council) for issuance of specific types of permits related to film and events, and providing general film and event permitting information.
This position will carry out some technical duties including inputting requests into the Public Works Lane Closure App, the interpretation of selected components of the City of Winnipeg Zoning, Building, and Neighbourhood Liveability by-laws, agreements, and other relevant legislation and regulations pertaining to film or event requests.
As the Permit Clerk you will:
- Initiates and coordinates permit applications.
- Prepares permit applications through to submission.
- Assesses scope of events / projects.
- Provides general film & event information to internal and external customers
- Performs related duties compatible with the classification as assigned
Your education and qualifications include:
- Grade 12 OR an equivalent GED
- Experience working in film or planning events including knowledge of film and entertainment industries
- Customer service experience with the ability to deal with customers in a courteous and tactful manner, often in highly stressful and/or confrontational situations in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Experience developing and reviewing site maps with strong sense of compass direction and geographical awareness of the city and its neighbourhoods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook with the ability to maintain a database of requests and populate calendars.
- Navigation skills with the ability to identify property on zoning maps or GIS environment an asset.
- General mathematical aptitude regarding geographical information / elements.
- Analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve and execute sound judgment.
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to function effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
- Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate information to a variety of stakeholders and the public.
- Familiarity with annual signature events in Winnipeg is an asset.
