As Manitoba’s film workforce development organization, FTM partners annually with 40 to 50 different organizations to ensure the province’s film industry professionals can access industry-driven training.

First launched in 2006, FTM’s annual FILM EXPO is a fall event geared toward delivering cutting-edge workforce development training on new systems such as editing programs and industrial film equipment.

“Zoot Pictures and DGC – MDC worked collaboratively with our teams to create this training opportunity for Manitoban film professionals,” said FTM’s Managing Director Adam Smoluk. “We also wish to thank Manitoba’s film commission, Manitoba Film and Music (MFM), for their important business intelligence that supported the delivery of this training.”

The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) is a national labour organization representing key creative and logistical personnel in screen-based industries. The Guild was established in 1962 as an association of Canada’s creative film directors, and currently represents over 5,000 members covering all areas of direction, design, production and editing. DGC – MDC represents over 200 members locally in the assistant director, director, production, locations, accounting, and editing departments.

Zoot Pictures was formed in 1995, the two principals are the creative team of Leif Storm Kaldor and R. Leslea Mair. The company has grown steadily from award-winning documentaries to series and feature documentaries.

The instructor for this one day Zoom session is Jackie Dzuba, an award-winning editor who works in both drama and documentary. Her accolades include: 2000 Gemini Award for Best Picture Editing, 2006 Seoul Drama Awards Nomination for Excellence in Editing, and 2008 Gemini Nomination for Best Picture Editing.

In addition to feature dramas and mini-series, Jackie has edited TV and feature length documentaries including The Nature of Things, and is currently working on a PBS NOVA/ARTE France documentary on the ancient Maya.
