In August 2021, Film Training Manitoba (FTM) and Winnipeg Transit will be launching new advertisements on Transit buses traveling around the city. The new ACTION! Campaign is designed to attract more workers to Manitoba’s burgeoning film and TV industry. FTM and Winnipeg Transit first partnered in 2019 and due to the success of the campaign — the two organizations are working together again.
“As a member of Manitoba’s dynamic Sector Council program, Film Training Manitoba conducts industry driven workforce development for Manitoba’s growing film and television industry, FTM provides hands-on skills development to grow our industry. We thank Winnipeg Transit for this important new initiative,” said FTM’s Managing Director Adam Smoluk.
Since April 1, 2021, FTM has launched over twenty specialty in-class sessions with over a dozen different industry partners including Willam F. White (Winnipeg), IATSE 856, Inferno Pictures, FascinAsian Film Festival, ARRI, and the Manitoba Construction Sector Council.
FTM also recently partnered with Manitoba Film and Music to launch TAKE 5: MB Film and TV industry sessions at the Gimli Film Festival 2021. FTM’s many new initiatives including the BIPOC Performers Initiative (in partnership with ACTRA Manitoba), and FTM developed a new fully online distance education course: Working as an Extra (Intro to Background Performing).
“In the past two years Film Training Manitoba has set new company records for participant numbers, partnerships, and new programming with Manitoba’s post secondaries schools. In the next number of months we will be launching a new slate of cutting-edge programming for Manitoba’s film industry,” said FTM’s Chairperson Andrew Yankiwski.
FTM has also grown its Facebook followers by over 6000 users to become the most liked and followed organization in Manitoba’s film and television industry. The organization also completed the 21 For the 2021 – Reel Careers Profile Series which profiles Manitoba film and television professionals.
FTM has also recently been profiled by the Winnipeg Free Press, Economic Development Winnipeg, CBC, and Winnipeg’s Westland Foundation.
