Film Training Manitoba and ACTRA MB completed the inaugural BIPOC Performers Training initiative this April. The five educational sessions included two intensive acting seminars instructed by industry veterans Conrad Coates and Patrice Goodman, respectively.
The three remaining sessions included panel discussions on other aspects of performing on set. All totalled, there were a 117 participations across all five sessions.
The training was aimed at supporting Manitoban performers to help prepare for upcoming opportunities in productions like The Porter.
“Workshops like these are absolutely essential at this time and I would take part in more in the future,” said Melissa Langdon, a Manitoba-based actor for film and stage.
For many productions, Manitoba doubles for locations throughout the US that have diverse populations. FTM and ACTRA MB designed this initiative to improve the ongoing need for inclusion of racially diverse performers. This supports the workforce requirements of productions while also helping our local talent pool.
“Film Training Manitoba’s mandate is to provide workforce development training that supports the growth of Manitoba’s film industry, and that means creating career development opportunities for all Manitobans. FTM wants to thank ACTRA and all of the instructors for the excellent work,” said FTM managing director Adam Smoluk.
