A joint training session by Film Training Manitoba and On Screen Manitoba.

  • Important Note: A basic COVID-19 cleaning and hygiene protocols for the workplace session for all Manitoba media production industry professionals. This introductory course led by Lesley Oswald and developed in consultation with professional health and safety experts aligns with the Manitoba Media Production Industry COVID-19 Safety and Health Guide. Course Details and dates to be published soon.

COVID-19 has required that we all make necessary changes in our lives to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmissions. Producers are working diligently to develop COVID-19 protocols, and appropriate procedure will be an additional consideration for all film industry professionals in the day-to-day operation of the media production industry.

As our production sector is starting up, and with the release of the Manitoba Media Production Industry COVID-19 Safety and Health Guide, FTM and OSM are pleased to provide this 2-hour Zoom training session with Jack Slessor, CHSC, Prevention Consultant, SAFE Work Manitoba.

Producers, Production Managers, Location Managers, Department heads and coordinators should take this session to develop a greater understanding of their role and responsibilities when it comes to safety and health. Participants will learn how they can contribute to developing a safety culture in the workplace during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. All participants that successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of completion.

Topics covered during this course will include:

-Supervisors roles and responsibilities as per Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) legislation. 

-The Internal Responsibility System (IRS). 

-The 5 different categories of hazards.

-What is a Risk Assessment?

-The Hierarchy of Controls.  

-Applying this information to the workplace policies and procedures. 

Please note: In addition to this course for supervisors, FTM and OSM will deliver a basic Zoom session for COVID-19 cleaning and hygiene protocols for the workplace. All Manitoba media production industry professionals are encouraged to take this introductory course to prepare for working on set and in the production office during the COVID-19 pandemic. Production Manager Lesley Oswald will be instructing this course which is being developed in consultation with professional health and safety experts and aligns with the Manitoba Media Production Industry COVID-19 Safety and Health Guide.

Instructor:

Jack Slessor, CHSC, is a Prevention Consultant with SAFE Work Manitoba and has conducted safety training sessions in the past for MB’s film and television industry. Jack also reviews FTM’s required online courses with a “workplace safety and health legislation lens” to provide guidance on the course material and resources.  

Jack also provides support and guidance to the workplace safety and health committees in MB’s workplaces and assists them in understanding their roles and responsibilities as outlined in the MB Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulations. In addition to being one of the presenters of SAFE Committee Basics and other workshops tailored to the needs of organizations, Jack also provides custom presentations and on occasion will attend committee meetings to provide hands-on support.

Dates:

June 22, 23, 24, 25 – Two session options per day (10am to 12pm or 1pm to 3pm). 
**Final session is MONDAY JUNE 29th 1pm – 3pm**

-Maximum capacity: 20 participants per session.

Cancellation Policy: 

FTM & OSM reserve the right to cancel, or postpone, any course where a minimum registration level has not been met.
