Film Training Manitoba Launches Six New Distance Education Initiatives During Social Isolation

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA—April 30, 2020 In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Film Training Manitoba (FTM) conducted a film industry poll in March 2020 to calibrate new distance education programming during the times of social distancing.  Based on the results of FTM’s polling, FTM has launched six new specialty distance education programs with our partners. Given the economic challenges that members of Manitoba’s film community are facing; FTM and our partners have developed tuition credits to ensure that all of these initiative are held at no cost for the participants. “Manitoba has an exceptional film and television community and FTM’s dedicated team is committed to providing innovative and industry driven services. FTM’s new programs are exclusively for Manitobans to support skills develop of our workers in an affordable and inclusive way. ” Said FTM’s Managing Director Adam Smoluk. New Distance Programming: The ACTION program at Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology for 30 students and alumni to undertake Set Orientation – Starting April 17th, 2020 Budgeting for Administrative and Technical Film Workers (In Partnership with Rhonda Baker Productions) for members and permits of IATSE 856, ICG 669 and the DGC MB – April 15 to April 30, 2020 (Sold-out) Locations with Monique Perro (In partnership with the City of Winnipeg’s Film and Special Events Department) – May 14, 2020 (Sold-out) Budgeting for Administrative and Technical Film Workers (In Partnership with Rhonda Baker Productions) for members and permits of IATSE 856, ICG 669 and the DGC MB – May 15 to May 30, 2020 (Sold-out) Manitoba Content Creators Development Accelerator 2020 (In Partnership with the National Screen Institute of Canada) for NSI alumni, and members and permits of  IATSE 856, ICG 669, the DGC MB, ACTRA MB, and members of the Winnipeg Indigenous Filmmakers Collective – May 2020 One-on-one Screenwriting Intensive (In partnership with the Indigenous Filmmakers Association) for Manitoba’s Indigenous content creators – June 2020 About  FTM FTM is a member of the Province of Manitoba’s Economic Development and Training’s Sector Council program. FTM  provides workforce and human resource development to build a highly skilled and adaptable workforce to support the activities of Manitoba production companies. FTM collaborates with members of the film and television industry to identify the training needs within the community.
