Skills Upgrade

The Skills Upgrade Program provides support for existing crew who are interested in increasing their skill sets and advance within their departments. Once a crewmember is deemed eligible for this program, FTM will work with a production company to place the crewmember in a more senior position on a production.
The crewmember is hired directly by the production company. They will assume the senior position they will train for, and be paid in accordance with that position and the policies of the relevant labour organization. The production company will provide a trainer to supervise the upgrading crewmember. The production company will also adhere to a training plan, and will submit an evaluation at the end of the placement, established in partnership with FTM.
Upon completion of the placement, FTM will reimburse the production a third of the crewmember’s salary and employer payroll deductions, up to a maximum of $2,000.00. The wage reimbursement does not include other benefits such as catering, craft costs, and other rentals.

Who can apply?

- Union or Guild crewmembers
- Writers
- Directors
- Producers

This is Film Training Manitoba’s newest program, with funding generated from our course revenues. As a result, only a limited number of placements will be available each quarter.
