Career Focus Crew Internship Program

Funding for this program is generously provided by the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.

As part of FTM’s Work Experience Program, the Career Focus Internship provides on-the-job training to new crewmembers. The purpose of this program is to match graduates from a post-secondary institution with production companies and/or film-related businesses such as equipment houses or production facilities.

Applicants must be:

  • Youth, up to the age of 30 (inclusive) at the time of intake/selection.
  • Post-secondary graduates. This includes graduates of degree or diploma programs from universities, colleges, post-secondary schools of technology, post-secondary institutes and CEGEPS (post-secondary education institutions exclusive to the Province of Quebec). These may be either publicly or privately funded institutions.
  • Currently not attending school.
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons on whom refugee protection has been conferred.
  • Legally entitled to work according to Manitoban legislation and regulations.
  • Available for shift work and overtime (i.e. days, evenings, nights and weekends.)
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the desired department.
  • In possession of a valid Manitoba Driver's License (access to a vehicle is recommended.)
  • Not be in receipt of Employment Insurance benefits (EI) or Employment and Income Assistance.

Applicants must

  • Provide proof of their post-secondary education.
  • Provide proof of Manitoba residency at the time of application
  • Identify a department in which they wish to intern.
  • Demonstrate sufficient experience and aptitude.
  • Exhibit interest in the film industry (i.e. post-secondary education, industry experience and/or workshops, volunteer experience.)
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Employment Conditions:

  • This is a full time paid internship for a period of up to 6-8 weeks (or an average of 400-500 hours) .All placements must be completed by March 31, 2014.
  • Interns will work on film productions and with film related businesses.
  • Interns may work up to a maximum of 12 hours per day.
  • Interns will be paid at the rate of $10.25 per hour for up to 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.
  • Up to 4 hours of overtime may be worked each day and will be paid at time and a half (20 hours per week.)

Note: Film Training Manitoba requires the applicants’ Social Insurance Number to submit to Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) to determine an applicant’s eligibility to the Career Focus program.

 

Successful candidates will be selected based on their application, previous experience and an in-person interview. All candidates accepted to the internship program will be required to complete FTM’s Set Orientation course before their work experience placement begins.
