Stillness for the Camera: The Art of Non-Acting with Brent Fidler

July 5, 2014 - July 6, 2014

Saturday, July 5th & Sunday, July 6th | 10 am – 5 pm

Actor’s Training Centre of Manitoba | 502 – 62 Albert Street Untitled

NOTE:  Registration for this workshop closes on Friday, June 27th at 12:00 noon.

This two-day intensive workshop will focus on identifying the actor’s personal, emotional, and psychological obstacles that prevent them for “booking” auditions − particularly in the contemporary North American television and film industry environment, where casting is often based on archetypes. This workshop will assist the actor in integrating their performance into an acceptable “American parameter” essential for that all-important studio approval, once a producer or director has made you their first choice.

This on-camera weekend will help participants rediscover an intuitive and naturalistic performance style, and is designed to reduce levels of audition and performance stress, develop visualization skills, increase concentration, and enhance the artist’s ability to quiet the mind and maintain a state of “being in the present”, which actor Morgan Freeman calls “the great inner stillness”.

Each actor must prepare a one to two minute monologue from the contemporary American theatre canon. As well, each actor will receive film sides one day prior to the workshop and will also be required to read cold for another “audition”.
