The main duties of an Assistant Director (AD) are to assist the director, coordinate all production activity, and supervise the cast and crew on production. The AD is considered the key link between the director and the cast and crew, and also the liaison to the production office, providing regular progress reports about the production.

This hands-on, two-day workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive look at the role of an assistant director.

Day One – PREP DAY

The instructor will begin the day by reviewing the workshop expectations with participants and then divide them into teams. Each team will outline their plan for day two (the shoot day), create a mock callsheet, scout potential locations, conduct a production meeting and then make any adjustments or changes to the call sheet before distributing at the end of the day.

Day Two – MOCK SHOOT

The second day of this workshop will begin with a safety meeting and then participants will shoot the first scene of the day as a group. For the second, third, and fourth scenes, participants will be assigned different duties in rotation, giving everyone a chance to experience each position. The instructor will end the workshop with a question & answer period.
