Master Your Audition with Benson Simmonds

June 26, 2015 - June 28, 2015

Friday, June 26th  &  Sunday, June 28th  |  10 am – 5 pm

Actor’s Training Centre of Manitoba  |  502 – 62 Albert Street

$125 ($100 for ACTRA Members & Apprentices)

NOTE: Saturday, June 27th will be used as an “independent study day” for actor participants to work on their scenes on their own.

Requirement: Upon registration, participants are asked to e-mail their headshot and acting resumé to, no later than Thursday, June 18th. (These will be used by instructor to help assign scenes to participants prior to the workshop.)

Workshop Description

During this two-day workshop, actors will learn how to break down audition scripts to determine their character’s objectives. They will learn how to personalize their characters using real life substitutions and use effective actions to go after their scene objectives with passion. They will learn how to give better auditions, have more confidence and fun, and yes, book more work!

Actors will also learn the specific audition scene categories that all actors audition for: love scenes, power scenes, one-upmanship scenes and “validation” scenes. Benson will share tips and techniques to giving great auditions for all of these different kinds of scenes.

Benson will also teach the actors how to change their mindset when walking into auditions in order to have superior confidence and have more fun. He’ll share exercises/meditations to help actors feel “protected” at auditions and on set, enabling them to feel free to do their best work.

Every actor will have the chance to do two different audition scenes. Actors will be pre-assigned an audition scene for the first day of the workshop (Friday). They will have a chance to present their audition and then redo the audition, integrating notes on how to personalize the audition with passion.

Actors will be learning all about script analysis, objective, substitution, actions on every line, moment before, etc. They will have a chance to utilize these new tools when preparing for their second audition scene, which they will present on second day (Sunday). The Sunday session will be run as if it were a real audition, giving the actors the opportunity to simulate the audition process in every way.
