MASTER SERIES: One-on-One with Producer Phyllis Laing

July 18, 2015 - July 19, 2015

Saturday, July 18th, 2015  /  Sunday, July 19th, 2015

Red River College – Princess Street Campus, 160 Princess St.  |  Room W411

During one of the two days, each participant will receive an individual 45-minute, one-on-one session with senior film & television producer Phyllis Laing of Buffalo Gal Pictures. Participants should come prepared to discuss a project (or projects) that they are currently developing.

In advance of the session, participants are expected to research potential funding sources and be prepared to discuss this with the instructor in order to receive the most beneficial feedback on their projects.

Through these individual sessions participants will gain a deeper insight into the process of creating and planning productions.

NOTE: Upon registration, participants may optionally submit supporting materials (e.g. a project synopsis, budget forms, etc.) that would help Phyllis better prepare for the one-on-one meeting. Materials can be e-mailed to:

*Registration priority will be given to Manitoba residents. If session times are still available, out-of-province participants will be able to register beginning Monday, June 1st.

About the Instructor

PHYLLIS LAING is the president of Buffalo Gal Pictures, which was established in 1994, using her keen sense of business, creative vision and knowledge of the film industry to steadily drive the company toward its present success.

Phyllis’ experience in the industry includes over 60 credits. Her recent credits include All the Wrong Reasons (2013), which she co-produced with Shore Road Pictures in Halifax; the Canadian Screen Award-nominated feature film Mad Ship (2012). Phyllis also executive produced the celebrated Canadian TV series Less Than Kind.

In keeping with her dedication to allow creative individuals to find work in Manitoba, Phyllis partnered with Dan Krech of Entremedia Digital Films in Toronto to set up Opus Animation in Winnipeg to produce Emma’s Wings: A Bella Sara Tale (2013) and take on future animation projects. She is currently overseeing a merger with Entremedia to create a new entity, Buffalo Media Group, a full-service animation, visual effects, live action, and digital media company.

Phyllis’ business acumen has twice been honoured by the Women’s Business Owners of Manitoba. She received the Women Entrepreneur of the Year award in 1994 and the Impact on Local Economy award in 2002.
