with Tasia Gerasftm 15th logo - r&b, horz

Saturday, Oct. 4th & Sunday, Oct. 5th, 2014 | 10 am – 5 pm | $90

Red River College – Princess Street Campus, Room P318

This two-day workshop will provide course participants with a fundamental working knowledge of two key pieces of software used in today’s film and television industry. These essential tools enhance the flexibility, accuracy, and efficiency of creating budgets and schedules for productions of all magic

Movie Magic Budgeting is an innovative budgeting and cost estimation tool that features an intuitive format, allowing users to create and edit comprehensive budgets of all sizes. Since a production budget is the blueprint that demonstrates how your project will get made, the decision to fund the project will often be based on the information laid out in the budget.

Movie Magic Scheduling enables users to create and view production schedules with a high degree of flexibility. Your production schedule is the essential tool that will take your project from script to an actionable plan. This software solution allows you to efficiently prepare schedules that enable your production team to make the best decisions possible.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Overview of Movie Magic Budgeting – introducing the four levels of work
  • Setting up and organizing “globals” and “fringes”
  • Employee vs. Contractor
  • Budget Templates – Studio/American vs. Canadian formats
  • Crew Rates
  • “The Script as Your Blueprint” – the breakdown elements you need to prepare your budget

  • Overview of Movie Magic Scheduling
  • How to do a Breakdown – the differences between a breakdown to create a budget vs. a breakdown to shoot the movie
  • Transferring the schedule into the budget
  • Budget Entry – setting up your own style to make it easy on yourself

NOTE:  If you own Movie Magic Budgeting and Scheduling, you may bring a laptop with it installed. However, this is not a requirement of the course.
