How to Successfully Create, Track and Manage Your Department Budget

with Production Manager, Tasia Geras

May 24th, 2015  |  10:00 am – 6:00 pm  |  $65

Red River College – Princess Street Campus, 160 Princess St., Room P318

This focused, single day course – based on the previously offered two-day “Money Matters” workshop – will provide you with the fundamentals and essentials tools to become more successful in managing your department budget whether you are a seasoned key or someone moving up into a key position.

There are many different ways to present a department budget. Some people use an excel spreadsheet; some use a scrap of paper. Some budgets give you extraordinary detail, others a brief outline. As a department head you are responsible for the development, accurate tracking and management of your department budget. You are being asked to manage this money and your next job can depend on your ability to do this.

Course topics include:

  • Locking the budget – department input into the locked budget
  • Communication between Director, Producers, Production Manager and Accountant – the importance of reporting and working together
  • Calculating tax credits and final decisions
  • Setting up for good budget tracking
  • Tracking your department budget – how to use it as a tool
  • Managing your department budget – how to make budgetary decisions, where you can make changes and creative thinking
  • Managing human resources (hours and pay rates), time resources, and financial resources
