360° VIRTUAL REALITY PRODUCTION: For Media Production Professionals

During this 2-day training course the participants will receive in-depth training on 360 productions, which will comprise of hands-on learning on a 360-camera system and then a full day session on post-production and overall workflow.


This courses overall aim is to empower the participants with the necessary knowledge, software tools and best practices to create good 360/VR experiences.



The instructors will lead the class through a series of hand-on demonstrations. This session will allow the participants to operate and learn the functions, advantages, and benefits of the 360-camera system while capturing footage and interacting with the instructors.



Using the captured footage and other examples, the instructor will lead the participants through an interactive demonstration of stitching, authoring and publishing. During this session, the instructors will field questions and also share they thoughts on direction of VR technology and the potential for future applications.


This course is targeted to Manitoba based camera operators, DOP’s, editors and filmmakers.


The Instructors


Thomas Wallner is a rare example of a creative filmmaker who is truly at home in the interactive media world. Over the past ten years Thomas has consistently applied his award winning vision as a storyteller to push the limits of interactive narrative.


A leading figure in the creation of participatory narratives he brought the underground genre of Alternate Reality Gaming into the Television mainstream, culminating in the Emmy Award winning genre-benders Fallen and Re-genesis.
Thomas is a recipient of numerous honours including two Emmy Awards with a total of five nominations, three Geminis, a Rose d’Or, two SXSW Interactive Awards, two Webbys and two CNMA’s.


Additional credits include interactive adaptations of the CBS/CTV police drama Flashpoint, the CTV Space / SyFy Network drama Sanctuary, TVO’s Empire of the Word and the M.I. High Game for BBC while ongoing distribution of Total Drama Island – Totally Interactive! (Teletoon, Cartoon Network) now includes over ten million registered players.


Nicolas Jolliet is the Head of Research and Development for DEEP and has spent over twenty years traveling and hunting for pictures, sounds and stories. Whether searching for the best Oud maker in Kurdistan, following the Guerimperos of the Amazon or filming the rat eating tribes in India, Nico thrives on telling stories from the most interesting places in the world.
In the past five years Nico has specialized in aerial videography, flying his cameras in the world’s most demanding environments including Africa, the Amazon, India and Borneo on films such as Quest, BBC’s Bruce Parry’s epic exploration of the lost tribes of the world. At DEEP, Nico is drawing on his extensive audio engineering, cinematography and aerial videography expertise to develop custom VR video and audio capture systems and workflows.

DEEP Inc. provides training and consultation on everything related to 360/VR filmmaking. DEEP Inc. has given hands-on training in numerous workshops at conferences and provided training and consulting to broadcasters and large production companies around the world.



Film Training Manitoba Course Registration Policy


  • Participants must be 18 years of age or older to register and attend the course.
  • Participants must register in advance of the course. No drop-ins.
  • Registration is on a first come, first served basis – unless otherwise specified. Enrollment may be limited.
  • Registration for all courses, including weekend workshops, must be done between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday (except holidays).
  • All registrations must be received and confirmed in-person or by telephone with an FTM staff member during office hours.
  • We do not confirm or accept registrations via email.
  • Payment in full is required to secure a spot in an FTM course.



Course Registration

Registration can be done in one of two ways:

In Person – cash, cheque, VISA and MasterCard, and debit are accepted. (Please make cheques payable to Film

Training Manitoba.) Our offices are located at 100 – 62 Albert Street, in Winnipeg’s Exchange District. We are open to the public Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.


By Phone – VISA and MasterCard (credit & debit) only. Registrations are accepted via the main line at 204-989-9669. *We do not confirm or accept registrations via email.


Cancellation Policy


  • Participants must cancel up to 4 full business days prior to the course start date to receive an 80% refund.
  • No refund will be given to participants who cancel within 4 full business days before the course start date, or if they do not attend the course.
  • Film Training Manitoba reserves the right to cancel, or postpone, any course where a minimum registration level has not been met. Participants registered for a course that is canceled will receive a full refund.



Breaks and refreshments


All course participants are responsible for their own refreshments.




Film Training Manitoba’s workshop training program is generously funded by the provincial government department of Jobs and the Economy.
