Red River College – Princess Street Campus, 160 Princess St.  |  Room P320

 $125

This two-day workshop will explore the structure and organization of the Art Department with regards to the roles, relationships, process and communications involved in the production of a visual story. Through group work and examples, we will define the duties, responsibilities and documentations of an art department and the cast of characters involved.

The key role of human-centered design in art department operations and defining a visual style for the look of a production will be explored in relation to technologies, budget, common vision and the photographic fundamentals involved in scenic design.

In groups, participants will be taken through the process of producing and presenting mock concept boards, set material finishes and developing directors’ plans. Attendees will map this process to vendors and procurement while surveying a set location and discovering the graphic design, legal and logistical requirements of a visual story production.

The workshop will conclude with a brief review of the impacts and effects of color in visual storytelling.

NOTE:  In addition to art department staff, this course may be of great interest and benefit to those working with sets, props, costumes, as well as other departments involved in creative design.

Course Requirement: Participants must bring a laptop computer or tablet, with Microsoft Office (or equivalent for presentations) and Adobe Acrobat Reader (for PDFs) installed, as well as a sketchpad with pencils/pens for drawing.
