Adam Smoluk RRC Commencement Speech 2020

Good evening honoured guests, members of Red River College’s distinguished faculty and administration, and graduates of the class of 2020.

It’s wonderful to be here to welcome the newly-minted alumni of Red River College. Welcome, too, to all of the parents, friends, and family members. This is your time to share and celebrate what your Red River College graduate have accomplished and to reflect on your important role in their journey.

I serve as the Managing Director of Film Training Manitoba and I’m very proud to have graduated from Red River College’s Human Resources and Management Development programs. I started with my company in my mid-twenties as an administrative assistant on the lowest rung of the ladder and pay scale. Working at the front desk, I grew to understand that I would have to further develop my academic and professional skills for career advancement. Like many of you, I aspired for more in my life, more for my company, and, most importantly, more for my family. That led me to enroll at Red River College; which was an excellent decision.

This past July, I was promoted by the board of directors of my organization to the senior executive position. I am now the youngest senior executive in the Province of Manitoba’s sector council program and I have no doubt my education at Red River College helped me to succeed.

Through RRC, I learned how to be an effective leader by developing my knowledge base and critically thinking within the workplace. RRC also instilled a commitment to lifelong learning; following graduation I earned two designations as a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) and a Society of Human Resources Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). I am deeply immersed in Human Resource and workforce development outputs to support growth in jobs and careers in our great province. That is why I admire Red River College’s major contributions supporting Manitobans towards jobs and careers.

I hope that hearing me, you will see that you can move forward with your future plans and aspirations in Manitoba, because you can! Manitobans are modest, but graduating is a significant accomplished that you will carry with you for the rest of your life. Encourage others to apply to Red River College.

As a Red River College graduate, you have invested in yourself. You’ve grown and developed your knowledge and for this, I congratulate you on your important accomplishment and wish you the very best for your future. Thank you.
